Super Bowl Committee Speaks in Fort Worth

It was our pleasure to talk to and hear Bill Lively, President and CEO of the North Texas Super Bowl XLVHost Committee, in Fort Worth, August 31st. He is an impressive communicator, quick, witty and intelligent. As President and CEO of the SuperBowl Committee, Lively reports to the Host Committee and its Chairman, RogerStaubach, Troy Aikman Vice Chair, Ross Perot Jr., Emmitt Smith, and Mayors of Dallas, Fort Worth and other VIP’s in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

The North Texas Super Bowl XLV has now raised more money, than any other Super Bowl Committee in history “The Board of Directors and Executive Committee, expanded its membership to include more North Texas business, civic, cultural, education and religious leaders, and confirmed the highest number of million-dollar sponsorships in Super Bowl history.” Said Lively to the Fort Worth audience.

“Hundreds of millions of dollars will be spent in our economy during this Super Bowl, and it will be the biggest economic boost from a special event that has ever happened in this area.” Said Mr. Lively. “This Super Bowl is expected to attract 150,000 people to Fort Worth/Dallas just by air travel alone, not to mention some 4500 press media reporters, 17,000 additional security and law enforcement officers, plus teams, coaches, and all the support groups that come with them.”

The host of the luncheon with Bill Lively was the Junior Professionals of the Fort Worth Club, Fort Worth, Texas.

“While it is probable more Super Bowls will be played at the Cowboys’ new stadium in the decades ahead, hosting the region’s first Super Bowl is a very important undertaking that must be managed with the utmost efficiency,” said Staubach, chair of the Host Committee. “The Host Committee selected Bill Lively to be its President and CEO because of his remarkable track record in creating new institutions and organizations, and raising millions of dollars to underwrite their operations.”

Lively comes to the Host Committee after nearly eight and a half years as President and CEO of the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts. While there, he was responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of the campaign which raised $338 million to design and build the Center which will open in 2009.

Lively spent 25 years on the faculty and in the administration of Southern Methodist University. During his tenure at SMU, Lively founded the Willis M. Tate Distinguished Lecture Series, the John Goodwin Tower Center for Political Studies, the Doak Walker National Running Back Award and SMU’s Athletic Forum.

Lively also spent 23 years in service to the Dallas Cowboys and the National Football League. From 1975-98, he served as Director of the Dallas Cowboys Band and game day Executive Entertainment Producer. Lively produced entertainment for Super Bowls XII and XIII.

Bill Lively told Saneh T.Boothe that her foundation (Cornucopia-Enterprise.com) to encourage children to learn about gardening, organic foods, and solar and wind powered greenhouses, was perfect to be a part of the SuperBowl effort. “We have allocated over a million dollars to foundations in Fort Worth/Dallas for children’s and community programs”, he said.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Fort Worth will be the host location for ESPN sports news, and also TCU and SMU will lend their football facilities for the SuperBowl teams to use in practice sessions.

“The hotels, restaurants, and tourist places will all be booked up in the week of the Super Bowl. This is huge for our economy and our image. This may be the highest watched, the largest audience, for any sports event in the world”, said Lively.

Open Letter to President Obama

This is one of my grandkids. He deserves a change to achieve his destiny.

Dear Mr. Obama,
You are a talented man, and unlike most politicians, you probably aren't obsessed with the need to be re-elected to keep your self image intact. I am assuming that you are young, brilliant, financially secure, and you have a creative and active life ahead, whether you are President or not.
But I would like to ask you, suggest to you, to do just a few things while you are President. Things that will make the world, history, your legacy, and most Americans, appreciate you. My 86 year old mother has lived through depressions, wars, sickness and death. As a widow her income has dropped from $80,000 per year, to $11,000 per year. She called me a few months ago, and said she was worried that she might not have enough to live on, or pay her bills. This woman has given this nation enough cotton production to for thousands of clothes, enough cattle to feed a small city, hired workers, built homes and lived a good life. Now her world, this economy is squeezing her last savings from her. We need you, Mr. President to do a few things for us.

1. Bring our boys home. They should never have been sent. The cost in blood and treasure has been far too high. Bring them home for their parents, children, and for our nation. We will love you for this.

2. Make the banks loan money again. You and George W. Bush loaned money to those at the top levels of our society. The money did not trickle down, the banks hoarded the money and profited by it, and the middle class and small business people of the USA, the people who create the foundation for economic growth, have been devastated financially. Make the banks lend to small business again. It is the only way to create jobs. China is booming again, because they made the banks lend money. Germany is booming, the banks lent money to small business. Bankers are hoarding their money and profiting by this recession.

3. Do things compassionate, kind, and broad minded for the American people. We do not wish to hear anything about the "bad" guys on the other side. We do want to see rich examples of generosity, kindness, and integrity.

4. Please look at the areas of bankruptcy law. It is in place to protect the very ones who have caused the financial crisis, and to destroy the millions of working Americans, who have lost jobs or income because of the "big boys" manipulations and corruption. The bankruptcy protects the big boys, and punishes those who have been run over.

5. Please look at ACH and the Credit Card system. In spite of the new laws, credit card companies are still abusing the public. They lower loan limits, causing credit scores to artificially drop, creating a cascade of other companies to do the same, until a person, because of one or two minor mistakes can find himself in ruin and buried under a sea of debt and lawsuits that are simply unfair and wrong. The current credit card laws, and the unregulated ACH system can literally rip funds out of a person's checking accounts without any permission or regulation. They, as my local banker said: "Are evil systems."

6. Just give us a chance! I was in Nepal a few years ago, and two little boys offered to take us to the top of an observation spot to see the Himalayas'. They wanted to make a dollar. One of the children said: "Just give us a chance!" Mr. President, just give us a chance to work, and fulfill our destiny. Just give us a chance to raise our children respectfully and with dignity, and to be able to send them to college. Just give us a chance Mr. Obama.

7. Help us when we are sick and down. If you can devise an emergency lending or capitalization program to help us through sickness and bad economic times, we will work hard and we will pay the money back. But with no sources of credit, credit card companies closing our lines, banks refusing to lend, the government must come up with some kind of emergency loan or capitalization to help us get back going. To help us have opportunity. You did it for the big boys. How about putting in a program to help us clear out the weights of horrible debt, credit card companies charging us 29%, because the lost our jobs, due to no fault of our own. Help us when we are sick and down, and we will repay, 100 times over by being productive, gainfully employed people.

If you can do these 7 things, Mr. Obama, before you move on to the next phase of your life, we would be so thankful.
